Scripture For Depression And Loneliness

Nothing Can Separate You From God

Overcoming Loneliness â Dr. Charles Stanley

For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord .

When youre haunted by the specter of depression, you feel very cut off from the love of God. Everything seems dark and bleak, as if there will never be another good thing in your life. You feel as though God has left you to wallow in the mire.

Nothing could be further from the truth. You are not outside of Gods sovereign will and gracious love. Because you are in Christ, nothing can separate you from Gods love. The only way God will stop loving you is if he stops loving Jesus.

Though you may feel alone and unloved, there is absolutely NOTHING, including depression, that can stop God from loving you.

Your body may be a broken down temple, but that doesnt diminish Gods love for you one bit.

Bible Verses About Loneliness And Relationships

Scriptures on relationships validate the loneliness we feel in relationships in marriage, friendship, or even familial relationships, these bible verses show us that loneliness doesnt spell the end of our ties. Lets look to God for guidance and healing, so that the relationships we have with the people in our lives are strengthened with His grace.

Prayer For The Deliverance From The Spirit Of Loneliness

When Jesus knew that His ministry on this earth was coming to an end, He comforted His disciples. He assured them that they would not be left alone.

Jesus promised to ask the Father to send the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of Truth, who would help them and be with them forever. When we commit our lives to the Lord Jesus, we too receive that promise.

We are not alone, and Gods word is the truth over our lives. The Holy Spirit is our peace and brings the grace of God, His power and love, into our lives. We can pray for deliverance from any negative mindset that opposes the truth of Gods word.

Dear Lord Jesus, I thank you that you came to release those who are bound by oppression. I believe in the truth of your word, and that I can have freedom from fear. I thank you now, that I am loved by you with an everlasting love. I am not alone, for you are with me all the time, when I am aware of your presence and when I am not.

I pray that you would deliver me from all negative thoughts of abandonment and fill me with joy and a fresh awareness of your love. Help me to take captive those negative thoughts and choose to meditate on the truth of your grace and love over my life. Amen.

God Will Never Fail Nor Abandon You

Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord will personally go ahead of you. He will be with you he will neither fail you nor abandon you. Deuteronomy 31:8

When youre experiencing deep depression, it can feel incredibly lonely. Our perceptions are often distorted by depression, so simple things like friends not calling can feel like abandonment. Its easy to fall into the trap of feeling like youre completely alone and abandoned when you really need people. Theres usually logical reasons for friends not calling, but the depressed mind tends to dismiss those, unfortunately.

Just as you can feel abandoned by friends and family, its common to feel that God has abandoned you, too. When you feel that way, its really helpful to focus on this Bible verse for depression. Write it on a post-it note and display it somewhere you will see it frequently during the day like the bathroom mirror.

God promises never to fail nor abandon us and God cannot break a promise. No matter how we feel, God doesnt let us down like people often do and He is always with us. Combat your feelings of abandonment with the firm reminder that God is not going to leave you alone in your depression. Hes right there with you.

Lord All My Desire Is Before Thee And My Groaning Is Not Hid From Thee Psalms 3: 9 Kjv

David poured out his desires before the Lord because he knew there is no problem that is too hard for God to fix.

Sometimes we become emotionally and mentally bruised because we try to do everything on our own and with our own strength. After a while we become overwhelmed, frustrated, and even depressed.

Another lesson we may learn from this text is to seek assistance. While we depend on the Great Physician and professional help to deal with depression we have to be open. We need to express ourselves openly to work through our emotions. Otherwise we will only be harming ourselves and weakening the prospects of getting better.

It’s more helpful when we talk about our burdens and troubles rather than hide what we are going through.

How Does God Help Us With Loneliness

Dealing With Loneliness | Eckhart Tolle

If we dwell or entertain these terrible lies the devil whispers to us, it can ruin our lives and our relationships.

Now you try it. Put your names in the blanks below.

God said, I will not leave ________ comfortless, I will come to _________.

See, hes not going to leave you. How about that encouragement for loneliness!

Lets try another one with Isaiah 41:10.

Fear thou not, ________, for I am with thee. Be not displayed _______, for I am YOUR God. I will strengthen ________, I will help ________, and I will uphold ________ with the right hand of my righteousness

Make more sense now? Does it seem real or truthful since you added your name?

Work For Meaningful Connections Instead Of Waiting For Them To Come To You

It can be easy to relish the role of victim, to think no one has it as hard as I do, to believe the reasons Satan feeds us to make us think that is true, and actually indulge in self-pity. When the temptation comes to sit by yourself and wallow in your own feelings, rather overcome them and go out and do something with and/or for others. This builds love, unity, brotherhood and fellowship.

Galatians 6:2

Bear one anothers burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.

John 15:13

Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down ones life for his friends.

Philippians 2:3-4

Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.

1 John 1:7

But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.

Jesus Was Fed Up With Politics Too

In Jesus time, communities were deeply divided by bitter differences in religious beliefs, political positions, income inequality, legal status, and ethnic differences. Sound familiar?

Jesus lived in the middle of a culture war, too. And though the political systems were different , the greed, hypocrisy, and oppression different groups used to get their way were very similar.

Lets set the scene.

Jesus was born at the height of the Roman Empires power. Theyd conquered most of the known world, and Israel was no exception. Unlike previous empires that would try to destroy cultures by displacing conquered peoples leaders, the Romans didnt force people to change their religion or customs as long as they kept their obligations to the empire. Rome would install a client king and exact tribute in lots of different ways. Families were charged taxes per personfarmers on crops, fishermen on catches, and travelers were charged fees to use the roads. This was in addition to local business and religious taxes charged by priests.

In Israel, political and religious factions were one and the same. Back then, it was Pharisees and Sadducees. Today, we have conservatives and liberals.

There were Zealot groups who hid in the hills and violently resisted Roman occupation, and then there were the Samaritans, often oppressed and marginalized because of their racial and ethnic identities.

None of the above.

Jeremiah Wrestled With Great Loneliness Feelings Of Defeat And Insecurity

Bible Study on Overcoming Depression – James Jennings

Also known as the weeping prophet, Jeremiah suffered from constant rejection by the people he loved and reached out to. God had called him to preach, yet forbidden him to marry and have children. He lived alone, he ministered alone, he was poor, ridiculed, and rejected by his people. In the midst of it, he displayed great spiritual faith and strength, and yet we also see his honesty as he wrestled with despair and a great sense of failure:

Cursed be the day I was bornwhy did I ever come out of the womb to see trouble and sorrow and to end my days in shame? Jerermiah 20:14, Jeremiah 20:18

A Bruised Reed He Will Not Break

a bruised reed he will not break, and a faintly burning wick he will not quench he will faithfully bring forth justice .

A bruised reed is one that that is on the verge of breaking, and a faintly burning wick is a flame that is almost entirely extinguished. Thats a very apt description of depression. You feel as though youre about to be completely broken or totally extinguished.

And though others may judge you because they dont understand what youre experiencing, God most certainly does not.

But doesnt break bruised reeds or blow out flames that are sputtering and smoking. Rather, he nurtures them and heals them and brings them back to life. God doesnt despise you in your bruised, broken, smoldering state. Rather, he is near to you, nurturing you and sustaining you.
