Depression Quotes About Relationships
31. Anger, resentment and jealousy doesnt change the heart of others it only changes yours. Shannon L. Alder, 300 Questions to Ask Your Parents Before Its Too Late
32. Others imply that they know what it is like to be depressed because they have gone through a divorce, lost a job, or broken up with someone. But these experiences carry with them feelings.
Depression, instead, is flat, hollow, and unendurable. It is also tiresome. People cannot abide being around you when you are depressed. They might think that they ought to, and they might even try, but you know and they know that you are tedious beyond belief: you are irritable and paranoid and humorless and lifeless and critical and demanding and no reassurance is ever enough.
Youre frightened, and youre frightening, and youre not at all like yourself but will be soon, but you know you wont.
Kay Redfield Jamison, An Unquiet Mind: A Memoir of Moods and Madness
33. The sun stopped shining for me is all. The whole story is: I am sad. I am sad all the time and the sadness is so heavy that I cant get away from it. Not ever. Nina LaCour, Hold Still
37. I feel like a defective model, like I came off the assembly line flat-out fucked and my parents should have taken me back for repairs before the warranty ran out. Elizabeth Wurtzel, Prozac Nation
The Lord Hears Your Cry
When the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears and delivers them out of all their troubles .
When you are sunk into the valley of depression, it feels like you are totally and completely alone. Like no one cares, like no one is listening. You feel isolated, cut off, and like God has abandoned you.
But has not, and could never abandon you. When you cry to him for help, he hears and delivers. Maybe the deliverance wont come tomorrow, but make no mistake, it will come. God does not leave his people to wallow and blunder their way through depression and hopelessness.
He hears every cry you utter, sees every tear that rolls down your cheek. You are not alone. You have a good Father who is with you and for you.
God Speaks To You In The Bible
Keep your heart open to the fact that the Bible has much to say to you when you are depressed. Here are a few suggestions of Bible passages you can read. Read one each day and let it fill your mind as you go about your life.
- Read about Jesus suffering in Isaiah 53 and Mark 14. How does it help you to know that Jesus is a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief?
- Use the Psalms to help you find words to talk to God about your heart. Make Psalm 88 and Psalm 86 your personal prayers to God.
- Be alert to spiritual warfare. Depressed people are very vulnerable to Satans claim that God is not good. Jesus death on the cross proves Gods love for you. Its the only weapon powerful enough to stand against Satans lies.
- Dont think your case is unique. Read Hebrews 11 and 12. Many have walked this path before you and they will tell you that God did not fail them.
- Remember your purpose for living.
- Learn about persevering and enduring.
Motivational Quotes To Get You Through Hard Times
Fight for your dreams, and your dreams will fight for you.
Sometimes, you have to choose between planting roots or growing wings.
Never let your head hang down. Never give up and sit down and grieve. Find another way.
-Leroy Satchel Paige
Prosperity is a great teacher adversity is greater. Possession pampers the mind privation trains and strengthens it.
But I know, somehow, that only when it is dark enough can you see the stars.
-Martin Luther King, Jr.
If you dont like something, change it if you cant change it, change the way you think about it.
There is some good in this world, and its worth fighting for.
Maybe you have to know the darkness before you can appreciate the light.
Even if you fall on your face, youre still moving forward.
Ive learned that everything happens for a reason, every event has a why and all adversity teaches us a lesson Never regret your past. Accept it as the teacher that it is.
You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You are able to say to yourself, I lived through this horror. I can take the next thing that comes along.
Obstacles dont have to stop you. If you run into a wall, dont turn around and give up. Figure out how to climb it, go through it, or work around it.

Depression Quotes From Stephen Fry
69. Certainly the most destructive vice if you like, that a person can have. More than pride, which is supposedly the number one of the cardinal sins is self pity.
Self pity is the worst possible emotion anyone can have. And the most destructive. It is, to slightly paraphrase what Wilde said about hatred, and I think actually hatreds a subset of self pity and not the other way around It destroys everything around it, except itself .
Self pity will destroy relationships, itll destroy anything thats good, it will fulfill all the prophecies it makes and leave only itself. And its so simple to imagine that one is hard done by, and that things are unfair, and that one is underappreciated, and that if only one had had a chance at this, only one had had a chance at that, things would have gone better, you would be happier if only this, that one is unlucky.
All those things. And some of them may well even be true. But, to pity oneself as a result of them is to do oneself an enormous disservice.
I think its one of the things we find unattractive about the American culture, a culture which I find mostly, extremely attractive, and I like Americans and I love being in America. But, just occasionally there will be some example of the absolutely ravening self-pity that they are capable of, and you see it in their talk shows. Its an appalling spectacle, and its so self-destructive.
Help Me Move Forward God

In Jesus Christs name, Amen.

Misconception: Its Okay To Talk About Another Persons Depression Or Struggles With Mental Illness As Long As They Do Not Know
Variation: Sharing someones struggles with mental illness without their knowledge lets other people know they need to be sensitive.
Reality: When people share their mental health concerns, those should be respected and kept in confidence. It is gossip to talk about others mental health behind their backs.
Talking about someone elses personal issues when they have not given you permission is never a good idea. But it can be especially painful when you are sharing someones struggles with mental illness.
Whether you think you are having a serious conversation about a real issue or you are just sharing gossip, using specific examples from the life of a person you know is a breach of their trust. Prayers and prayer requests for others should be respectful, not thinly veiled opportunities for gossip or judgment.

A Prayer For Battling Depression
Dear Heavenly Father, Thank you that you never change, even when everything around me is changing and unpredictable. Thank you that you are stable, even when I feel so very unstable. It feels like Satan has been whipping me around! Please sustain me, protect me, and enable me to stand.
I know that because sin entered the world, all of creation is under a curseall creation groans. Because of this, I struggle physically, emotionally and spiritually. Thank you for how my body is made, and that it sends me warning signals to tell me that I need help. Right now my brain and emotions are telling me that something isnt right.
Help me to see if there is something physical that is causing my depression. Help me to sift through my circumstances to see if there is a need for change in some way. If I am experiencing depression as a result of a spiritual battle, please bring that to light and show me the best way to fight that battle.
Please lead me to the right source for help. Thank you for understanding what I am going through , and thank you that Your Word tells me that even Your Son went through hard times emotionally. There were times that He was distressed, grieved, faced loneliness, experienced deep sorrow, and after the death of John He went into isolation . He cried in prayer , and at times he was overwhelmingly sad . There was even a time that he was afraid his body would not survive the anguish he felt.
God Is Near To The Brokenhearted
The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit. Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all .
When you are sunk into the depths of depression, you feel constantly brokenhearted and crushed in spirit. The soundtrack of your life is in a minor key.
God has a special place in his heart for the brokenhearted and crushed in spirit. When you find yourself under a crushing burden, God draws near to you. He sees you in the midst of your affliction and moves toward you with deliverance. Even though you cant feel his presence, God is nearer to you now than ever, and he is working on your behalf.

Its Ok To Seek Professional Help
Seeking help for depression does not mean you do not have enough faith or that you are a bad Christian. In the Bible, we see Jesus heal many people from physical illnesses, but Christians who understand the Bible well would not use that as proof that people with physical illness lack the faith to be healed or are being punished. When Christians are physically unwell, they visit their doctor. The same wisdom holds true for your mental health.
If you want someone to address your depression in the context of your faith, some large churches have counselors on staff, and there are many Christian counselors available to help.
Christians can still benefit from secular counseling. Often, insurance will not cover faith-based counseling services, so secular counseling may be more financially viable for you. Some Christian counselors have the option of a sliding scale for payment based on income.

For A Christian Friend Going Through Depression
Loving Lord, I come to You on behalf of a friend and colleague that I care about but who is going through such deep depression. Sadly, he seems to have given up on life and does not want to speak to me or anyone else, causing him to sink lower in the cess-pit of doubting Your love, despairing of life and sinking into an ever deepening depression. Lord, I pray that You would meet this man at his point of need, and give Him the reassurance of Your love in his spirit and Your hope in his heart. I ask You Lord, to lift the curtain of doubt that has played such havoc with his assurance of salvation in You, and which has caused him to walk away from the joy he once knew in You. Give me wisdom as I lift my friend up in prayer. Show me the way that I can be a support to him in his time of trouble. Meet him Lord, at his point of need I pray, restore to him the joy of Your salvation and give him the peace that only comes from You. I ask this in Jesus’ name, Amen.
We Are Tired And Weary
Today, Oh Gentle Lord, let me experience Your holy comforting presence, for I am tired and weary, and my spirit feels weak and filled with despair.
I am trying my best to keep pushing and moving forward, to take the next step. Jehovah Shalom, today I do not feel as witty or bright as most days. I feel like giving up.
Psalm 46:10 Be still and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!
Philippians 1:6 And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.

Recognize That Your Feelings Are Just That
Feelings are pathological liars. Very rarely do they speak the truth about reality. They can change in a split second depending on what you ate for breakfast, the amount of sleep youve been getting, your family biology, your recurring thought patterns, sinful actions, and 10,000 other variables.
And yet for some odd reason, we treat them as infallible deities who always speak the truth. When we feel bad, we then conclude that things really are bad, even though thats often not the case.
One of THE most important things Ive learned to do when Im depressed is to recognize that what Im feeling probably isnt true. The truth is outside of me, located in the sacred pages of scripture.
When Im in the grip of depression or anxiety, I have to, in a sense, detach my brain from emotions. I have to fall back on what I know to be true even though none of those things feel true.
Chris puts it this way:
When it comes to mental illness, our feelings can be very misleading. I say this because a change in how we feel about God can be one of the main manifestations of depression or anxiety. This can be very distressing for a Christian, yet how we feel about God does not impact who he actually is.
We may feel angry about our circumstances, which leads to the thought that God hates us. He doesnt.
We may feel lonely, which leads to the thought that God has abandoned us. He hasnt.
We may feel hopeless, which leads to the thought that there is nothing left to live for. There is.
The Neuroscience Behind This Approach And Why They Get Stuck
Clinical research shows that people living with depression and/or anxiety have an overactive amygdala . In prolonged states this disrupts the brains ability to process thoughts and balance moods staying stuck in fight, flight, or freeze mode and it leads to physical fatigue.
The counsel to keep “fighting the good fight” is re-triggering the amygdala to stay in high alert and increases more scrupulous thinking to find the cause . Then, its trying to find the right spiritual fix formula to, first, get right with God and if its enough second, then God will release a blessing to remove the pain. Adrenaline may be so high in this effort that they may experience relief but it quickly returns with disappointment. In tears, after seeing no results the questions end up being,
“I’m doing everything I can, God where are you?
God why are you so silent what am I doing wrong?
God why are you not helping me God, please?”
Faith feels dim and completely exhausting!
But, there is another, and more positive, way to look at this to find comfort and actually experience more relieving hope.
